Create a live photo gallery for a sports event

How to set up a real-time photo gallery at a sports event: setup, sharing with guests, and best practices with Snapdelivr.

Why offer a live gallery at a sports event?

Offering a real-time photo gallery at a sports event transforms the attendee experience. Here are the main benefits.

  1. Guests or attendees discover photos as they're taken, creating excitement and engagement.
  2. You stand out from other photographers by offering an innovative, modern service.
  3. Photos are instantly shared on social media by attendees, increasing your visibility.
  4. No need to wait days or weeks: photos are available immediately.

Set up your live gallery on Snapdelivr

Here's how to prepare your live gallery for a sports event with Snapdelivr.

  1. Log in to your Snapdelivr dashboard and create a new project/gallery dedicated to this event.
  2. Enable 'live gallery' mode in the project settings. Photos will be visible to visitors as soon as they're received.
  3. Note the gallery's FTP settings (server, port, username, password, path) to configure your camera or the PhotoSync app.
  4. Customize the gallery: add a title (e.g., 'sports event – Live Photos'), a description, and optionally a cover image.
  5. Generate the QR code or sharing link for the gallery to distribute to attendees.

For a sports event, plan for about 500-2000 photos. Adjust processing settings if you want watermarks or automatic resizing.

Connectivity and network at the venue

Network connectivity is crucial for a successful live gallery. Here are our tips for a sports event.

  1. Arrive early at the venue to test network coverage (Wi-Fi and 4G/5G).
  2. Configure FTP on your camera with the gallery settings (see our per-camera guides).
  3. If the connection is unstable, photos will be sent automatically when connectivity returns. No photos are lost.
  4. Keep an eye on your phone battery if using hotspot: bring a power bank.

Outdoors (stadium, field), 4G/5G is often the only option. Use a plan with plenty of data and check venue coverage before the event.

Share the gallery with attendees

Maximize the impact of your live gallery by making it easily accessible during the sports event.

  1. Print the gallery QR code and place it on tables, at the entrance, or near the photo booth.
  2. Send the gallery link by email or message to attendees before or during the event.
  3. If the organizer has a screen, display the live gallery for a spectacular effect.
  4. Add a call to action: 'Scan to see photos live!'.

In sports, photo volume is high. Set up automatic FTP sending to save time and send JPEGs to keep transfers smooth.
